What the heck is Biodynamics?

60 Second Wine Vacation with Seresin Estate

Seresin Estate Winemaker Clive Dougall met with Wine Channel TV host Jessica Altieri to talk wine and biodynamics.

Jessica Altieri Wine TVAfter Clive finished his wine and spirits studies in his home of London, he came to New Zealand in 1999, Clive completed a vintage in the Barossa Valley of Australia on the way. Clive joined Seresin in 2006, and now has over 17 years of winemaking on his resume.

The founder, Michael Seresin who is a New Zealand native, moved to Italy early on and this is where his love for wine developed. While there in the 1990’s, Seresin decided to move back to the Wairau Valley and founded Seresin Estate; he also imported and planted Olive plants from Tuscany.

The use of organic and biodynamic techniques and philosophies has been a philosophy of Seresin, which is certified with BioGro New Zealand. As it states on the Seresin website, “Biodynamics is a system and philosophy of farming that recognises the soil and entire farm as a living organism. It is based on a series of lectures given by Rudolf Steiner in 1924, which have evolved into a form of farming that is now widely accepted and practised throughout the world, covering all forms of agriculture.”
