Beaujolais Nouveau and Wine Channel TV with JustJess in Chicago at the Dana Hotel and Spa
“Le Beaujolais Est Arrivé!”
This is the sign that used to be seen all across Beaujolais dating back to the 19th century announcing another successful harvest of Beaujolais Nouveau. The Beaujolais Nouveau celebration happens on the third Thursday of November each year at 12:01 am; I was fortunate enough to be there with the action in Chicago to help launch this wine and continue this decades long tradition.
The Dana Hotel and Spa played host to the event, along with circus acts, a DJ and great wine provided by WJ Deutsch and Co. The celebration occurred throughout the country in varying cities, including NYC with actress Molly Sims helping bring in the launch there.
The Institut National des Appellations d’Origine (INAO) originally established the third Thursday of November in 1985 to allow for a consistent release date for the wine. This Fruity, Gamay varietal wine is feremented for only a few days then bottled, and meant to be drunk young.
The name “Beaujolais Nouveau” was originally a marketing term created by Georges Duboeuf, and I had the pleasure to meet with a few people from the Duboeuf team as well as from Beaujolais in attendance that night to talk about the significance of this event.
