Cabernet Grand Challenge, Chicago Wine Club, Affairs of the Vine and WineChannelTV at BlueStar
Earlier this year a Cabernet Shootout was held out West, that unfortunately I couldn’t make. Yet, luck was on my side as the Cabernet Grand Challenge was being held again, this time in the Midwest, at BlueStar Wine Bar in Chicago.
I first met with Chris, the owner of BlueStar Wine Bar in Chicago, which features unique Mediterranean Cuisine and has each meal paired to a different wine on their menu. As well, Chris mentioned BlueStar has different themes each night, including Wine Flight Wednesdays, Bring your Neighbor Thursday Nights, and Live Music on Fridays. The venue was a perfect fit for the Cabernet Grand Challenge.
The tasting was conducted blind with the bottles covered in tinfoil and each person received 3 different pebbles, women and men got different colors, and at the end of the night you voted for your favorite wine.
There were 30+ Cabernet’s and over 130 people in attendace. The winning Cabernet for the women was the McGrail Vineyards 2007 Reserve McGrail Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Livermore Valley while the Men’s favorite was Martin Ray Winery 2007 Reserve Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley. Overall, I think this was a very fun, interactive, out of the box tasting that was a big success in Chicago!
Watch WineChannelTV live with the BlueStar owner, and getting some sips of the great tasting!
