Enology Wine Bar, Intercontinental Hotel and Wine TV in Chicago

After a long day of holiday shopping, wine was definitely on my mind. I’d heard some great things about the Enology Wine Bar at the Intercontinental Hotel in Chicago and decided to give it a swirl.

The hype was right about this wine bar, as soon as I walked in I was in wine-o heaven on Michigan Avenue. The first thing that caught my eye were the beautiful wooden tables that had grape varietals etched on them and seemed to be glowing. I was transported out of chilly Chicago at that moment and then had my eye on the huge wine-list book…and meat cutter up on the bar 🙂

The sommelier came over and let us know about all of their flights and specials. Each day their chef in back comes up with a surprise cheese and meat platter to compliment the wine you pick, which sounded fun so I went with it.

I ordered the Portal White Garnacha Blanca/Sauvignon Blanc Spanish White Blend, that had just enough crispness and fruitiness to make my day and compliment the cheese. I had 3 types of cheese that were all delicious: Piave Vecchio Oro Del Tempo( sweet, yet nutty similiar to Parm), Dante (herbacious and rich sheep cheese), and my favorite the 4 yr. Holland Gouda with burnt caramel and tasty orange notes. The Piave was the best pairing with my wine complimenting the fruity, yet crisp characteristics.

Watch WineChannelTV and this hot spot you should check out the next time you’re in Chicago.

Cheers,

JustJess
