Hey Mambo Italiano Chicago and Wine Channel TV
Mambo Italiano Restauarant in Illinois feels like you’re stepping right into Italy.
From the crispy pizza, pasta, broccoli rape, and homemade cannolis to the live music this place has all the right touches. The wine list made it a perfect night.
I went with a 2007 Tamas Estates Barbera Reserva, from California. I’ve tried many Barbera’s while I lived in Italy and was in cooking school there.
Barbera is the third most planted grape varietal in Italy, and the best known Italian producing region of this grape is Barbera d’Asti in the Piedmont region.
That being said, I was eager to see how the California version compared.
The Tamas Estates Barbera had very fresh, red cherry, raspberry and blackberry notes with hints of toasted oak and vanilla. It wasn’t too tannic or chewy, yet the ripe acidity gave it a kick making it a great pairing with my zuppa di pesce pasta or even a simple pizza to compliment the cherry notes.
