Rex Goliath Chardonnay is not the first thing you think of when Napa Valley or March Madness comes to mind. But , any wine with a rooster claiming to weigh almost 50 pounds on its label will catch my eye, for better or for worse…
At $5.97 a bottle I figured I couldn’t really go wrong, so I scooped up this 2008 California Chardonnay from Wal-Mart wine hoping it would hit the spot while watching some NCAA hoops. I bet this gal, like many women across the U.S. will be drinking some wine while watching the game…
Right off the bat the intense tropical, pear and pineapple notes hit you with a very sweet, honey, vanilla and French Oak flavor. I really couldn’t believe how sweet it was for a Chardonnay. It was decent for a cheap wine.
That being said, I would only pair this with food if it was very spicy , such as some Thai or hot chicken wings while watching the games.
Take a look to see if this Wal-Mart wine was a “down the drainer” or stayed in my glass !
Cheers,
J

I’ve seen this one, but typically I select a sauvi blanc, or riesling, or gewurztraminer over a chard. But for the price point, I’m gonna give Rex Goliath Chardonnay a try.
Thanks Jess!

Thanx for great post Martin! How was the riesling or gewurtz?
Will have to look for that!
