Sip Some Austria with Winery Wieninger
Jessica Altieri joins Fritz Wieninger at Winery Wieninger
“Sip Some Austria” continues as Jessica Altieri, CEO and host of Wine Channel TV, visits with Fritz Wieninger of Winery Wieninger in Vienna, Austria. The name “Wieninger” intimates internationally-recognized, top wines from Vienna. With 52 hectares run by a family staff of 10, Winery Wieninger guarantees quality orientation with a balanced, natural cultivation adhering to biodynamic guidelines. Biodynamic wine cultivation ensures that soils are alive with healthy vines and high-quality wines that reflect a close relationship to nature. Herbicides, pesticides, systemic sprays, and artificial fertilizers are completely eliminated. Winery Wieninger uses more traditional vinification combined with modern methods and exports to more than 40 countries. Fritz Wieninger took over the family winery in 1989 and was named “Winemaker of the Year” in 1991.
This specific Wieninger Vineyard is made up of two separate sites: Bisamberg and Nussberg. Both of these sites provide optimal conditions for wine making with the Pinot Noir comprising a mixture of the two. The Bisamberg and Nussberg are separated by the Danube river, and with this, feature different soils and different climates. The Nussberg is optimal for the planting of Gemischter Satz, Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Traminer. Wieninger vinifies two categories: The classic Wiener Gemischte Satz and the full-bodied Wiener Gemischter Satz with site designation. A meticulous, strict list of criteria guarantees the quality and authenticity of the Wiener Gemischter Satz. Stay tuned to Wine Channel TV for more exclusive “Sip Some Austria” featured videos.
