Sipping Smart with Wine Judges – Part 3
It’s hard to believe that we are already less than a month away from the 2014 International Wine Channel TV Awards (September 16-17)! The fuel and smarts that makes the competition run is Chief Judge Debra Del Fiorentino, who is featured along with this weeks featured judges: Erik Miller, Theo Snyder, Alycia Mondavi, and Victoria Wilson.
International Wine Judge, Sommelier, Certified Wine Professional and Certified Specialist of Wine, Debra Del Fiorentino is a consummate wine professional who brings a dynamic energy and expertise to every endeavor she undertakes.
Debra is a familiar face at numerous prestigious wine competitions. She currently holds the esteemed position of Director of Wine Competitions for Vineyard & Winery Management, a producer of wine competitions for nearly 40 years with eight unique wine judgings.
Originally from the Midwestern state of Indiana, Erik Miller decided pursue a career by moving out west after he received his degree in Organizational, Leadership, and Supervision from Purdue University. His first taste of the wine industry began at Belvedere Winery in the Russian River Valley. After his first harvest, he enrolled at University of California-Davis to study Oenology and the rest his history. In 2004, he began Kokomo Winery and has seen great success ever since.
Theo Snyder has lead an extensive career in fine dining management and has even been awarded with the Wine Spectator winning restaurant for the state of New Hampshire for an impressive number of 10 years! Not only that, but she is a Total Wine Professional and a member of the Court of Master Sommeliers. On top of that, in 2007, she was named the manager at Total Wine & More!
Alycia Mondavi has a lifelong knowledge of the wine industry. Even at a young age, she worked along her family’s vineyard, C. Mondavi & Family, doing different jobs at a $0.25 hourly rate when she was ten years old. Combining her knowledge of vineyards, a degree in marketing management from the University of San Diego, and a paralegal certificate, Alycia is continuing to work in the family business by managing their Cabernet Sauvignon, Aloft, and teaming up with her sisters to help manage Dark Matter Wines.
Victoria Wilson has also grown up on a family vineyard at Wilson Winery. With a deep knowledge of winemaking and her Environmental Sciences studies from UCLA, she is eager to continue to learn all that she can about the industry. Having spent years working as a tasting room manager for one of her family’s vineyards, Soda Rock, Victoria has a passion for winemaking. Today, her career includes producing a Pinot Noir for her family’s winery.
With an immense amount of experience in the wine industry and their impressive careers, all of our judges will play a key part at the competition. Keep your eyes out for the next upcoming Meet the Wine Judges: Parts 4-5 as we get closer to the 2014 International Wine Channel TV Awards!
